VECTOR MAP AFRICA COVERAGE

2

There is extensive coverage of South Africa as well as detailed coverage of the Southern Africa Region. The entire continent is covered at various levels of detail, but the underlying feature is that there is full road network coverage allowing a user to route, literally from “Cape to Cairo”. Details of the coverage per country or region is available on request.

Speed Profiles provides an average measured speed for each road element based on a two-year rolling inventory of historical travel time data.

Get access to a uniquely large and rich database of travel time data to analyse and influence intelligent business decisions.

SPEED PROFILES – data available for each map segment for each direction, covering all roads. Highly granularity of data giving information for each element every 5 minutes of the day and every day of the week.

TRAFFIC DATA

LIVE TRAFFIC

Real-time traffic insights offer an accurate and detailed view of average speeds and incidents on the road.
Our traffic insights offer highly granular speed and bottleneck traffic data to help drivers arrive quicker, safer and on time to their destination.
Live Traffic gives your business the ability to:

– ENABLE local road authorities, highway agencies and traffic management centres to monitor traffic effectively.

– INTEGRATE real-time traffic into your application for improved route calculations and accurate ETAs.

– EFFICIENTLY manage your workforce with route optimization within mobile workforce apps.

– ASSIST fleet managers with routing drivers around traffic incidents, helping to reduce time and fuel cost and increase customer satisfaction

HISTORIC TRAFFIC

4

Offering an historical traffic database with trillions of data points and over 11 billion new records added every day.
If you want to query traffic data based on travel time, average speed and probe counts on certain elements of a road or area on a certain time of day or year, historic traffic data is essential.
Historic traffic gives your business the ability to:

– MEASURE infrastructure improvements by analysing pre and post traffic data on a route

– INTEGRATE traffic data with business intelligence applications for improved insights.
Historic Traffic data consists of:

– CUSTOM AREAS – a detailed set of information to support bottleneck analysis, performance measurement, traffic modelling and site location studies

– PROBE COUNTS – a proxy to the total number of vehicles on a road, allowing you to an overview of the relative density of cars and the distribution between location and time

– CUSTOM TRAVEL TIMES – analyse specific roads or routes comparing passenger vehicles and/or commercial vehicles.

ECONOMIC AND DEMOGRAPHIC DATA

It is made up of the following data sets:

DWELLING POINT DATA (HOUSEHOLD POINTS)

Various methodologies are applied to determine the disposable income range of each dwelling by using property values. The data analysts then count and classify each roof top and apply various methodologies to determine the property value and the disposable income of that household.

This demographic dataset employs the latest available aerial photography and property research, as well as GPS fieldwork, to ensure the most up-to-date information available.

Each point in this dataset represents a household or dwelling. The dataset carries income ranges associated with nett monthly household disposable income.

It covers most of South Africa and more than 150 other Sub-Saharan African destinations.

INCOME CLASSIFICATIONS

6
Class Group Income
HIGH A++ >R100 000
A+ R50 000 - R99 999
A R30 000 - R49 000
MIDDLE B >R18 000
C R11 000 - R17 000
LOW D R3500 - R10 999
D low R1 200 - R3 499
D Zero <R1 199

INFORMAL AND RURAL AREAS

Informal settlements are covered and updated. Reclassification is common as informal dwellings are slowly developed into more formal dwellings

Rural areas are covered where there is sign of growth and economic importance. Consultants in the field and doing studies indicate these areas

Where there is no coverage of dwelling points, aggregated dwelling points based off projected census data is used

7

NEW DEVELOPMENTS IN METROPOLITAN AREAS

8

Change detection in the imagery is used to detect new growth and development

The new developments dataset indicates new developments which are monitored, and updates follow the construction projects

In-house analysts give feedback after site visits for consulting work. This consulting work is based primarily around retail, shopping centre, mixed-use, medical and educational development

BUSINESS DATA

The Business Data layer is created from an online business directory and supplemented with various additional resources.

ADDITIONAL SUPPLEMENTAL DATASETS

CADASTRE – CD: NGI

10

MAPIT makes use of the cadastre which it has licensed from the CD:NGI (National Directorate of Spatial Information) as a backdrop to its spatial data.

MAP ENGINE

CLOUD HOSTED MAPPING DATA SERVICES

The MAP ENGINE is a mapping data Software as a Service – (SaaS) solution which is cloud hosted and able to service multiple clients concurrently.

11 1

API FUNCTIONALITY

12
  • Map tiles for display and visualisation
  • Search box for places, address, POI’s
  • Lat, long to address, road name, speed profiles
  • Routes along roads from Origin to Destination
  • Estimated time of arrivals along routes, with or
    without traffic
  • Geo-Fence creation and notification
  • High speed/high volume reverse geocoding

SEARCH

  • Part of the API SUITE
  • Search is available as a RESTful API designed for developers allowing single line fuzzy search
  • Search features include addresses and POIs
  • Search returns a latitude/longitude to a specific address, cross street, geographic feature, or point of interest (POI)
13

XYZ MAP TILING

14
  • Part of the API SUITE
  • The MAP ENGINE serves global digital map content
  • Comprises a large volume of data, and to efficiently transmit map images for display over the internet to multiple users simultaneously
  • The data is divided into gridded sections called tiles

REVERSE GEOCODING

Part of the API SUITE

Three reverse geocoding services are available:

STANDARD
  • The Reverse Geocoding API gives users a tool to translate a coordinate (for example: -26.017142, 27.9970239) into a human-understandable street address, street element, or geography
  • Most often, this is needed in tracking applications where you receive a GPS feed from the device or asset, and you want to know the address
VERBOSE I
  • The MAP ENGINE also has a high volume, high velocity Reverse Geocoding API for high performance asset tracking applications
  • This API is available on request with the capacity to service 12 000+ QPS (transactions per second)
